Rachael completed two Bachelors, in French and Linguistics, at Western Washington University, USA in 2014. After working abroad for two years teaching English as a foreign language in France and Guadeloupe, she moved to Montréal and completed her MA in Applied Linguistics at Concordia in 2019. Under the supervision of Professor Pavel Trofimovich, her MA thesis investigated French learners’ attitudes towards European and Quebec French and the roles of learning experience and social networks. Rachael completed her doctoral dissertation focusing on the role of accent in workplace communication in March 2024, and she is currently an Assistant Professor in Concordia's Applied Linguistics program in the Department of Education. Rachael’s primary research interests are related to the sociolinguistic aspects of second language acquisition, particularly regarding French as a second language. In addition to being involved in research, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and learning languages, painting or drawing, and playing sports (softball, soccer, curling).
